Cold Navigator: warm places and cold relief for the winter
Feature
The Cold Navigator is online. It shows 227 warm places in Berlin and the phone numbers of Berlin's cold relief services. It complements the city's services and does not replace them.
Inside the Cold Navigator
- Cold relief phone numbers. You see which service you can reach right now, and what to do if you see someone out in the cold.
- Warm places. Libraries, museums, malls, department stores, neighbourhood centres, churches and other heated public places, with address and directions.
- Winter opening. For 212 of 227 places, sources confirm winter opening, for 36 of them limited. The other 15 are marked "not verified".
- Cold warnings. Official warnings from the German Weather Service appear at the top of the page.
The places also appear on the map, optionally filtered to "open now".
Data and limits
Geometry and basic details come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL 1.0, © OpenStreetMap contributors). The winter details come from editorial research with a source and a check date. The Navigator does not arrange emergency shelter and gives no legal right to stay. House rules of each venue apply.
The list may have gaps and relies on corrections. Venues can ask by email to be removed.
Methodology
Selection, verification status and limits are described on the Warm places layer page.
